PIECES
I have always seen the world as made of pieces. My attention is often caught by small details, texture, color, shape, the parts that form the scene I am viewing. Sometimes, due to divergences in how my brain works, these pieces became all that I can see. My mind becomes overwhelmed, and I lose sight of the whole.
With time and help, I have learned how to ground myself in those situations. By focusing on aspects of each piece I can bring them together, rebuilding and reconnecting with my surroundings. I can still notice the pieces around me, but instead of disconnected shapes they became a solved puzzle.
My design process follows a similar method. I notice and collect fragments of what I see. The texture of a wall, the shapes of a shadow, the way certain colors contrast or blend together. I take these pieces and use them as building blocks for something new. Shapes become silhouettes, texture become fabrics and colors become patterns.
In this project, I saw an opportunity to reflect my process and world view. Photos allow me to isolate the pieces I see, and combine them to create new images.
