ABOUT
My name is Cibele Cozzo, I am a Los Angeles based costume designer and costumer. I have worked in a variety of areas and contexts. From designing costumes for film to working as a dresser at the circus. However, my current area of focus is in making and maintaining costumes.
MY STORY
Growing up in Sao Paulo, Brazil I was constantly surrounded by beautiful and vivid expressions of art and culture. There, I learned all the basics of sewing on my grandmother’s living room floor, with her hands guiding mine. I honed my skills when I moved to the US and attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, where I got my Bachelor’s in Fashion Design.
My professional career has been diverse, to say the least. I worked as a designer for many different short films, with looks varying from traditional Senegalese Boubous to whimsical punk looks and private school uniforms. This experiences came in handy when I was a dresser and costumer for Cirque Du Soleil, which was an adventure with many different costumes and textures.
Costumes aren’t where my expertise ends either. I have experience in bridal alterations, where I helped women prepare for their big day. And working with human hair wigs. Learning to ventilate wigs -adding strands of hair by hand- was difficult but I was up for the challenge. Whether its costumes, bridal, alterations, or wigs, my skillset its vast and ever evolving because this is my calling.
